I didn't find a way to store/retrieve passwords outside of this tool (like on KDE where there is a DBus API). If someone have more information about that, he will be welcome!OK, I found that: https://specifications.freedesktop.org/secret- service/latest/index.htmlRegards,I found a German article from 2010 which suggests, that the so called "Secret Service API" has been developed to obtain a desktop agnostic API for all desktops and applications. The "Secret API Specification" can be found here: https:// freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/secret-storage-spec/secrets-api-0.1.htmland lists the two developers Stef Walter (GNOME Keyring) and Michael Leupold (KWallet Developer) who decided to offer a common interface. It seems to me that the D-Bus interface can now be used for all desktops. Accordingly it shouldn't be required to use cli tools any longer. Please correct me if I am wrong. Best regards, Claus
It can be used only by the desktop that implement that interface. So at least KDE, Gnome, and maybe Gnome-like distributions like Mate, Cinnamon, and so on.
We will see when I have time to work on that. -- Benoît Minisini.
