It does not particularly address the issue but does make sense for cancel to always return zero in some cases. 
(I couldn't see how to disable the windows close button but if there is a way maybe an option to do that would be cool?)  
There have been several mentions in this thread of "right hand buttons", but some toolkits actually invert the order of the buttons, don't they? As in left is Cancel and right is Ok, instead of the more typical ordering?

Also, FWIW and IMHO, I always prefer to have the option to disable the window close button programmatically.
