I also tried loading up generic thumbnail placeholders as a default and letting RenderThumbnail, called from the Draw event, determine whether the thumbnail could be loaded from the document or if it needed to be rendered. But, it didn't seem to load any faster, ie. the Application.Busy cursor seemed (an entirely subjective observation) to remain the same amount of time.

The only way I can think of to speed it up any more would be to offload loading of the placeholders to a background Task. However, given the nearly 2800 page PDF I've been testing with, I think it is good enough.


I have adapted it in my pdfviewer for the guide that is, with some minor changes, but it works like a charm.

Good material for the guide, as I'm gonna have them face this problem and next solve it step by step, with this being the last step. Perfect example for learning to understand problems and solutions.
You will be remember in the guides (by name if that's okay, if not just call out how you want to be mentioned).

It doesn't matter to me, Willy, how, or if, you mention me as long as it isn't something disrespectful ;-)
