Hmm, interesting.

Just for comparison, the VMs I used were given only two processors and 4MB of memory, and used the default Virtio video without 
3D acceleration. It doesn't make sense to me that the location of the repository (PPA vs OBS) should make a difference. But, 
stranger things have happened.
