Actually, 'gb.ncurses' indicates that it relies on 'ncurses' (and so does the ./configure output).
The actual package name depends on your distribution. Google told me that it could be named
'libncurses5-dev' for Debian.

For the PDFDoc.h error when compiling, this file, on my system, is located at
/usr/include/poppler/PDFDoc.h
I see that you have installed libpoppler-dev so you could check where this file lies on your system
and get an idea why it is not found by your compiler...
