For what it's worth, I'm running Ubuntu Dapper on this laptop and 
Gambas looks like any other Qt/KDE program.  (Running under 
GNOME, because I got sick of having to switch to GNOME all the 
time to get at the Administration menu.)  I do have the 
Kubuntu packages installed as well.... maybe apt-get install 
kubuntu will fix things up?
