hm, i just found I do not have libiconv at all installed.
I have only program iconv in /usr/bin.
iconvconfig -V returns *iconvconfig (GNU libc) 2.3.3*
Maybe a try with --with-libiconv=no or something to find
if there are more problems.

Using here SuSE9.2 KDE 3.5.2
