No, I haven't even compiled the Gtk component, I was just asking.  
If you have a button that says "Press Me To Continue" and it 
takes up the whole button, inserting a picture into the button 
will cause the words to wrap, but laying a picture on top of the 
button as you describe will presumably cover one or more words.
