I've found the problem
The paper size defaults to A4 
(which I guess makes sense : -)
When I set it to US letter it works fine

Why this would cause the TOP to be cut off
Instead of the bottom which is the normal result
Is a little strange, but wouldn't happen on a "normal" app
Since this is a small test drawing I didn'y think it would be a factor
