Well, you could say the same about Windows and OLE.  I view 
SendKeys as a "method of last resort", for dealing with programs 
that either have no OLE (or DCOP or dbus) interface at all, like 
proprietary legacy programs that there's no other way to 
interface with.  There are a lot more of those under Windows 
than Linux, but the option would still be nice.

I think what Benoit suggested is the way to go as far as 
implementing SendKeys goes.  No idea if/when I'll get to 
implement it though.
