After what you said about the "current command line" being refreshed i did a test to see that previous text does clear, only the command line re-appears.

If there is a function to force the re-write of the command line , maybe a reflow trigger or something? this you would know best.

then the command line could be refreshed instantly after a clear thus not giving any illusion of non cleared text.

this i think would make it even better than mate-terminal because even that clears all the visible text but does not refresh line.
