In Unity/Ubuntu 18.10 the extension is already installed. Or a similar one. But I can't check, as installing Gnome desktop extensions does not work anymore in Ubuntu 18.10 (It worked in Ubuntu 18.04).

Apparently as soon as Gnome developers do not like a feature, they remove it and make the life of people using it a nightmare.
