I dabbled with MATE for a while back but I didn't get how to configure it for my workflow. I was used to the windows way of Meta Key + type program name + launch. But the mate panel is hard to configure. Also, I didn't quite get how to make fractional scaling work on MATE (my laptop needs a 133%).Cinnamon managed to get fractional scaling sane on X11, but it is too tightly tied to Mint.It is going OT now but I'll definitely learn more about MATE now. I'm a newbie, and I speak as a newbie. In GNU/Linux, everything evolves (read: forks), nothing disappears: https://github.com/X11Libre I predict a long life for x11, or whatever it'll be called in the future. I started with Ubuntu, now I'm using Mint, who knows tomorrow... If I'm alive, I'll use something useful. Have you tried GambOS? You can ask gbWilly if it works on your laptop...Long live GNU/Linux and the freedom to use whatever you want without restrictions.
Best regards Gianluigi
