Hi all, Now that we are at it, I had to dig a little deeper: Some more on version numbering and Debian (and Ubuntu for that matter) can be found here (https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html#version) The format is: [epoch:]upstream_version[-debian_revision] In short (more to read in link above): - epoch: This is a single (generally small) unsigned integer. It may be omitted, in which case zero is assumed. - upstream_version: This is the main part of the version number. It is usually the version number of the original (“upstream”) package from which the .deb file has been made, if this is applicable. - debian_revision: This part of the version number specifies the version of the Debian package based on the upstream version. Presence of the debian_revision part indicates this package is a non-native package. Absence indicates the package is a native package. The link is from the Debian Policy version 4.7.0.1, released on 2024-08-25 (https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/) This manual describes the policy requirements for the Debian distribution. This includes the structure and contents of the Debian archive and several design issues of the operating system, as well as technical requirements that each package must satisfy to be included in the distribution. I discovered it today, so I got some reading to do. Enjoy, gbWilly P.S. Ubuntu is downstream from debian and uses same policies for their packages and repository structure. But it seems they are slowly abandoning the debian way, for less stable solutions, like the App Center that supports Snaps: "Beginning with Ubuntu 23.10, Ubuntu's previous GNOME Software Center (a GUI package installer) has been replaced by the App Center. App Center is a lot more convenient for installing software as it supports installing both Snaps and Debian packages." Convenience often is a killer of quality and know how, IMHO. Maybe that is why launchpad is not working like it used to?
