Re: github Discussions

Hi Benoit!

Of course you're right...

Gambas uses Gitlab. It does not use Github, because Microsoft... and AI that pumps real source code made by real programmers to generate false answers to people that needs AI to be a programmer.

And I didn't know that one. But Gitlab is promoting AI as well, are you sure they are the better guys? (Well, at least they aren't M$ :) )

I am not against replacing the mailing-list by something else, but:

- It must offer the same kind of discussion organisation, i.e. threads.

I think that it would even offer additional comfort. And the discussions in a forum are always in threads, and you can even spread it into several groups.

- We should control the tool.

- Who is going to maintain that new tool?

Who controls the mailing list? Isn't it easier to delete troll articles from a forum?

Maintenance is another thing, but most of the softwares today use some kind of update announcement and even offer one-click update scripts even from the graphical backend. And if not, it won't be more than ssh into the server, unpack the new version and swap the folders.

Another advantage of the mails is that I can download them, and read them later without the Internet.

Yes, that is a big advantage when you frequently travel by plane. You can use the time to read and answer to the disussions. When you are in the hotel, your laptop will send your answers to the list. I have actually seen guys using it this way.

Do you have more use cases in mind for it?

Regards
Rolf
