I need to add one thing I think is happening:

It looks like the compatible until version is not understood by either:
- gambas
- debian package system

Debian gets this dependencies info from a control file upon installing an application.
I do NOT use max version in step 7 anymore for applications depending on a library, but let compatible until in library handle this.

As you can see in added image the control file is created with correct dependencies. So, installing and all works ok.
Conclusion: debian package sytem is happy

So, this is a gambas thingy, me thinks....
