It is odd, it's like it does not register mouse until it has clicked and
moved.

I can click an item in the dir or file chooser and it does not select.
Another click or a double click and still the dir under the mouse does not
select.
on doubleclick the activate fires with whatever is pre-selected as Path.

what does work is clicking somewhere and then moving the mouse.
As soon as you move the mouse after a click you can see things highlighting
under the mouse as normal and clicks respond as normal.

but everything seems locked until clicked and mousemove.
