If you see it, then this is not what I mean.

We saw bounces from Google of mails which were delivered by the ML to
members but never reached the account xyz at gmail.com.

It looks like so, when Google bounces mail from the mailinglist:

If you see something like this for your own mail you have sent, you will
have to go to https://support.google.com/mail/?p=UnsolicitedMessageError
and then have "much fun" with it.
