Would it help you if documentation would have a small addition like this:

'Hardware means CRTSCTS is used for flow control'

'Software means XON/XOFF is used for flow control'

'Both means CRTSCTS plus XON/XOFF are used for flow control'

Would that make more sense for you in using SerialPort?
