I took the advice of MinnesotaJon and changed the "Hinting" setting. The problem was occuring on both my laptops. One was set to "None" and the other to "Slight". To maximise the effect of change I set both to "Full" and, in each case, the tracking problem has been resolved. Thanks Nige
