Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS 
F11 open and close the console , 
same on Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS run on VMware 

Both rev.5851

So may be VBox don't pass the key or wrong. You can run the IDE in the
IDE and look for the incoming key-value.
