Charlie's script seems to be a good start.

Any volunteer to take it, work on it and send it to me so that I put it inside 
the source tree?

It would be cool if this script actually outputs a file with that format:

[xxxxx]
Field1=Value1
Field2=Value2
...

so that it can be read by the Settings class.
