Sure,

Worth also considering that Ubuntu are probably only packaging 1.x
because 1.9.x is marked as "unstable".
If you were to release what you have as "V2", it would probably get
packaged and released pretty quickly.

A number of packages that "should" be in the Ubuntu live repositories
(Gambas 1.9.48 for example) are not there for this reason.

... So users are left on V1 simply for the sake of semantics ... IMHO,
there's enough in 1.9.48 and it's sufficiently stable to be a release
version.
(well .. if you take out some of the packages like Gtk ... (!))
