I have written two short programs using Gambas 1.0.13 which is available 
for use with Unbuntu.  One is an Address Book program to try out the 
SQLite database and another little toy to calculate Bicycle gear ratios.

Both ran on the Gnome desktop OK and I have recently swapped over to KDE 
and they are still OK.
