Daniel submitted a patch to enable a tray icon back in November. I got 
it to work against some early 1.9 series gb.qt.kde components but I 
don't know if it would still work.

In the meantime, try typing "kstart --help"; I have written at least
half a dozen Gambas programs that I've put in the systray using
kstart.
