It's not my fault. 'freedesktop.org' has (apparently) deprecated the 'xdg-shell' scripts.

The replacement is 'xdg-portal', a DBus interface that normally provides similar desktop features and more.

But, the DBus interface must be implemented by each different desktop, and each different desktop does not implement everything.

As often, the new shiny thing is sometimes worse than the old-fashioned way.

At the moment, if 'xdg-portal' is implemented by the desktop, it is used instead of 'xdg-shell' for everything.

Maybe I can add a flag that would allow to disable the use of 'xdg-portal' when needed?

Hi Benoit

To make myself more clear why I think that Gambas is the reason:

Mint 20.3 Cinnamon + Gambas 3.18.4 ... Desktop.SendMail works
Mint 20.3 Cinnamon + Gambas Master ... Desktop.SendMail does not work

Same OS, same desktop ... only a different Gambas. 

Mint 20.3 Mate + Gambas Master ... Desktop.Sendmail also doesn't work.

Under these circumstances I can't see any other reason for this problem than Gambas itself unless it makes a difference that the Distros with the Gambas Master are running as virtual machines.

That should not happen, it means there is no project template installed on your system!

The property ShowDetailed of the FileChooser class doesn't work - see attached simple demo.
I am trying to activate this mode with 
FileChooser1.ShowDetailed = True
but the FileView remains in icon-mode and the button for the detailed view remains unpressed.

I can switch the embedded FileView to detailed-view-mode with
FileChooser1.View = 2
or
FileChooser1.ShowDetailed = True
but the "DetailedView-button" is not displayed as pressed.

The code of the FileChooser class shows this:
Private Sub ShowDetailed_Write(bShowDetailed As Boolean)

  frmChooser.SetShowDetailed(bShowDetailed)

End

So I am assuming that the according button is supposed to be pressed in frmchooser when the view mode has changed and the view mode is actually changed there.

I explicitly marked the 'ShowDetailed' property as deprecated in the 'FileView' control. The 'View' property must be used instead.

To reproduce bug...
Open program and press the Compile/Install button to goto install page of wizzard.

then press the Quick Compile MenuButton (but not on the arrow)

That should pop open a Message.Question() asking to continue.

Click Cancel.  (Nothing happens here)
Click Cancel again, message box closes.

QT is okay this is just gtk3 issue

My mistake, it was not fixed i just did not get the error message :-\

Still re-installing did not fix it.

What did fix it was to manually copy the empty folders from app/template to the empty folder ~/.local/share/gambas3/template

Odd it does not work from /usr/share/gambas3/template  those folders seem to only be viewable/changable if root.

once i put the folders to ~/.local/share/gambas3 they self populated with files once i ran gambas3 , i guess they were unable to do that from /usr/share/gambas3

Under certain conditions the TextArea shows an unwanted behavior, which can be reproduced reliably (also see attached screen video):
1. Put some text in a TextArea and replace it through copy/paste
2. Now try to repeat this as follows:
Mark the entire text in TextArea again, press the right mouse button and keep it pressed. Move the mouse cursor so that the most upper context menu item "redo" is highlighted and then release the right mouse button. In this moment the former text appears in the TextArea.

With this behavior the the TextArea it sometimes happened unintentionally, that when I want to paste a text into the TextArea with the right mouse button (and the context menu), that the former text appeared (=redo) and the context menu disappears. This can easily happen when the mouse cursor slips a little to the right before releasing the right mouse button.

The context menu items should only react if the left mouse button has been pressed. 

I hope that this can be fixed.

I couldn't find the commit in the ppa daily yet. The ppa seems to be stuck at
gambas3 (3.18.90+git202311042032.fd8781cae+build36~ubuntu20.04.1) focal; urgency=low

Hello,

I have opened another bug for this issue.

On my Fedora 38, after an update of my system, it seems all panels that use gb.form.htmlview sub-component does no show the content anymore.
It' the case for the WebForm used for Internal Debug of gb.gui.web project and the Help panel of Gambas IDE.

I have tried to rollback to previous commit of Gambas DEV but nothing changed.

I suspect an issue with a new package version installed and not compatible with this sub-component.
There is no error in the console or in the terminal when Gambas IDE is started from it.

Tried on different unix account, in case, it was linked to the config files but nothing.

I totally agree on the fact is related to Fedora 38 and recent packages version but not able to point it.

Do you have idea on what I could run to help on debugging this issue please ?

Sorry, I am entirely surprised. As expected this doesn't happen on Windows platforms. There context menus appear upon release of the right mouse button (= MouseUp-Event). Unintended operations as described are impossible with this. I was assuming that it is the same on Linux, but there context menus are opened upon MouseDown. I checked a number of apps incl. the Gambas IDE. Also an own app showed it, but I was able to change it because the context menu was manually opened in the MouseDown event. I simply changed it to MouseUp-event. With this, the explained "glitch" cannot occur. However, the TextArea has an internal mouse event which is out of control of the programmer.
Are all Linux-Programmers making the same mistake? Are all Windows programmers on the wrong track? Does this happen because of a Linux toolkit/library or standard API? What is you opinion? Should a context menu occur on MouseDown or MouseUp?

I tested it and found no change - except, that the DetailedView-Property cannot be used any longer.
When I change the mode to "detailed view" by doing this:

FileChooser1.FileView.View = FileView.Detailed

the control shows a detailed file list, but the DetailedView-button of the FileChooser control remains unpressed (see attached screenshot).

Popup menus open from a special event named "Menu" on Gambas. But it is not specified if that "Menu" event comes from
a MouseDown or a MouseUp event. It can even comes from no mouse button event at all (when pressing the "Menu" key on the keyboard).

I guess it's usually a MouseUp that triggers the "Menu" event.

The application has a Form.class that intercepts ShowModal() and uses Show() and Wait instead.
This was because Show() had more control over positioning than ShowModal()

This also seems to be the cause of the problem.

This was also my assumption but to my big surprise I found that in most Linux apps the context menus are popping up at the MouseDown event. Allegedly only Chromium shows a correct behavior (not tested). I found that I am not the only one who claims unintended false operation because of that under Linux. MAC-OS users seem to have the same problem.

Is the behavior of the Gambas TextArea depending on Linux OS resources? Is there a way to suppress the built-in context menu of the TextArea and to create an own class where the context menu pops up at MouseUp? Could the TextArea be fitted with an option that allows to change the popup of the context menu to "at MouseUp" instead of "at MouseDown"?

Ok I tracked down what was happening by turning on the -v option in the make file,

The qt4 components were still there from an earlier install.

It seems that the gbi3 program tries to create the info files for every single component in the library every single time it is called
not just the component it is being called to set information for in the make file. 

To be clear it is called once for each and every component.

Since qt4 is no longer part of the OS, the call to load the qt4 libraries for the orphaned qt4 components failed. And appeared to fail for every
component being installed. Hence my confusion.

It seems to look like it is executed and recreates all the info files several hundred times!

Anyway deleting the outdated components seems to have fixed the problem.

Can this be confirmed before closing this?

I find this using text/uri-list drag operations..

if i initiate hControl.Drag(aFileNames, "text/uri-list") then Drag.Data is Null outside of the application.

For example if i drag to another gambas application the Drop event shows Drag.Data as Null

If I drag to another control in the same application then Drag.Data is there and Drag.Paste("text/uri-list") works
If I drag a file from the desktop to the application the Drag.Paste("text/uri-list") in the Drop event works as expected.

But it seems using ganmbas to drag a text/uri-list to anything other than the same application fails.

It works with qt, only gtk3 fails

If everything is ok you have to issue these commands: 
Move to the current Gambas folder and issue the command: 
sudo make uninstall

cd

rm -rf <old folder>/

unzip the new folder (I recommend renaming it as you usually do)

cd <new folder>

./reconf-all

./configure -C

make

sudo make install

Ummm, I am not sure we are on the same wavelength!

My request is that when I bump the version number in the ide for my APP if the ide could reset the package version number to one.

The reason I asked was because I constantly forget when I create an installation package for my app after bumping up the app version number to reset the package number back to 1.

Leaving the distribution package with a new version number and maybe an old package number of 20 or so.... LOL.

and after committing it to the app's PPA I discover the error... UGGGG.

So pure request, not sure if others have the same brain slips..

Would it be possible to somehow have the farm allow the upload and distribution of Gambas scripts.

Scripts are much much smaller that the comparable project and very portable for small applications and examples.
They can be converted to projects if need be using scripter(gbs3).

Any thoughts on this idea?

As I said on the mailing-list, 'gb.form.htmlview' has no dependency at all, as the source code of the project it is based on is copied inside the Gambas source code.
It's C++ code, so maybe it could come from a change in the C++ compiler? I don't really think so.

Can you try with both GTK+3 and QT5 to see if it's different?

Can you avoid the GIF format for video capture, it works badly here. Use a normal video format if you can.

'gbi3' try to load all components found in '/usr/lib/gambas3' (i.e. each library associated with a '*.component' file) one by one, to generate the metadata text files used by the automatic completion (among other things).

When you run 'make install', 'gbi3' is run after each component compilation, because another component coming after may need the metadata from that component. All components are processed, because the metadata of some components compiled before can include the metadata of that component.

I admit it's not optimized, and that could become a problem now that there are a lot of components.

In an application I suddenly recognized a strange cursor when moving with the mouse through the item list. This happened after I extended the number of list items so that the scroll slider appeared on the right side of the list.
I replicated this part of the app in a very small demo (attached) and found, that it also happens there - unfortunately with a lower reliability but noticeable and very annoying in a real app.

Please take note that following factors seem to have an impact on the occurrence of the bug:
- The combo is set to Read-Only (!)
- The number of items is so big that the vertical scroll slider appears
- The mouse cursor is moved from the Combo-pad directly to the vertical scroll-slider (!)
- It seems that it happens more often, when the combo is part of a bigger app - meaning that time effect may be relevant. 

I am not sure, whether this doesn't happen with GTK3, but in a short test with GTK3 I couldn't provoke the bug.

I remember the setting in the .settings file looked like this...

Maybe this should not happen, or has happened from a different gambas? I thought it weird and should report as it threw an error so I could not load the project at all.

if you can think of a possibility the setting can save like this (or could have in previous gambas) then maybe a simple "Try" could handle the error.

i had not manually edited the .settings file so have no idea how it stored the breakpoint incorrectly.

feel free to ignore. it has not occured again and i only saw the bug once.
