Before reading Bruce suggestions I was able to do a complete install of gamba3 using this sequence (suggested at https://gambaswiki.org/wiki/install/ubuntu):

 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gambas-team/gambas3 
 sudo apt-get update
 sudo apt-get install gambas3

After that typing gambas3 in terminal starts the Gambas menu 3.18.3

mario at mario-inspiron7548:/usr/bin$ gambas3
but shows a never ending list of
Menu!
Menu!
Menu! 
...

 I am also able to start the program "control" from terminal
mario at mario-inspiron7548:~$ cd /usr/bin
mario at mario-inspiron7548:/usr/bin$ control

but shows this never ending list of errors:

libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
...


If I try to start the same program from the Plasma Desktop Workspace GUI it flashes an error message and closes.

I am told  that the new distro version,  LinuxFX 11.4 plays nice with Gambas but I have not crossed that bridge yet.
