I'm not really interested in implementing a Windows-like MDI area.

It's a big work, and nobody really uses that kind of interface anymore.

There is no need to implement your own implementation. Otherwise do not use a structure, use a class.

Hi I think this sounds like typical toolkit difference.

Gambas used to use QT by default but now it uses GTK3

This caused some controls to behave slightly differently but it is not any change in gambas code it is how the different toolkits behave.

You can run the IDE using QT with the following command...
env GB_GUI=gb.qt5 gambas3

or if you want your programs to work exactly like they did they probably need to use QT too, so make them explicitly use gb.qt5 component not gb.gui.

Hi Benoit,
only today after months I noticed a malfunction for me.
If I create a background image for the transparent form, the image changes if the theme is dark.
See attached image of the CuckooClok.
This does not happen (at least here) with the other moon phase watch, see attached image, made months before and which uses the same technique.
Have you made any changes?
Is it possible to make the image stay the same?
Both projects are on the farm.

to give complete information.
The change of the image (adaptation to the theme) takes place only if you load the picture directly:
.Picture = Picture['./images/chalet.png']
If you create an image, load it ('load' and 'stretch') the adaptation to the theme does not happen.
If you also use a PictureBox the image looks better, see attachments.

You have added a glitch with this commit though Ben.
FTestButton.form now has a line defining a "MyButton" and there is no MyButton.class so there's an error that causes all components using base to fail compiling.

I think it would be better if any "make install" parts failing actually produced an error,

then the gitlab pipeline jobs would catch these errors. 

Also because my installer programs have to end with "now check the output for errors" as "make install" parts fail without raising any error.

Do you think it is possible if any "make install" parts fail to compile the script could throw/exit with an error?

This is not a problem when using KDE desktop only occurs when using MATE desktop

I think something is up with your MATE Brian.

I only use MATE on mint and do not get this issue or your other with no window controls.

Did you try changing theme or increase font size to see if it makes things better.

I developed some issues after recently upgrading mint to latest version due to the theme. 
i could no longer resize any windows. i changed theme and all was okay.

I have tried all of mine and they all work but i cannot find one like yours that only shows grey circles with no x like in your gambas main window.

I have mirrored your system as best i can, i installed desert-gtk theme and upgraded to same kernel 6.2 set font to 10 (i even tried 8)

I have not got this problem.

I am at a loss

I installed a new system and it did not do the same thing.

But my primary work system still does the same thing, tried removing and reinstalling gambas etc, no difference.

I have used Mate desktop for a long time the issues just started
about two weeks ago maybe. I have only done system updates, and running the gambas daily.

But I installed kde, and I am now using that instead.
Everything works fine in that desktop.

The strangest thing is that when in the debugger and I click on a simple value to
change it the IDE will immediate exit with no error.

These windows are "utility" windows (it's a X11 concept).

The Mint window manager is the one who decides that they should not have any control.

There is an option if the IDE configuration to use "utility" windows. Uncheck it, and the IDE will use normal windows. You will get your control back, but then you will get more useless entries for all these windows in the task bar.

If you want to compile the latest master on Debian 12 these are the steps:

First you need to completely remove Gambas3 stable.
This depends on how you installed it.
Once the stable version is removed, open the terminal and issue these commands:

sudo apt update

Answering Y (yes) to the terminal question

With this command you install all the libraries needed by Gambas3 + git from which you will obtain the last master that you will copy in the 'gambasdevel' folder with the command:

git clone --depth=1 https://gitlab.com/gambas/gambas.git gambasdevel

Continue with the other 3 commands:

cd gambasdevel

./reconf-all && ./configure -C

make && LANG="C" sudo make install

If after 'configure' the terminal reports something like:

| THESE COMPONENTS ARE DISABLED:
|| - gb.sqlite2
|| - gb.qt4
|| - gb.qt4.ext
|| - gb.qt4.opengl
|| - gb.qt4.webkit
|| - gb.qt4.webview

It is normal and you can continue with the installation, if there are many more, ask here.

To uninstall the master, these are the commands:

sudo make uninstall

rm -rf gambasdevel/

I made a test application because i was having trouble getting my window to place correctly.

It contains the code i have used to move a window from one screen to another (laptop with a monitor attached) while keeping it's relative screen proportions.

I found from looking at the numbers after making this application that my code had to be right and something else was up.  So I tried with qt and it worked as expected :-\

I found after using Form.Move() with gtk i had to do it again after a wait instruction.

I have only one screen, so I modified the code to keep the window on the first screen, and move it randomly.

Everything works as expected on KDE with GTK+3 without your 'gb.gtk' trick.

I will try in a VM with another window manager.

Here is a dual screen video of what I mean.
In the clip i switch screens first with gtk3 and no workaround.

then i switch screens with the workaround.

then i use qt (after commenting out the workaround)

I wonder if this could be relevant to another bug i get with window positioning that has me adding a Settings.Read(Me) to a Form.Show as well as Form.Open otherwise it sometimes does not work properly.

I don't know if you could see the problem in the clip?
So i'll offer an additional explanation.. 

with gtk and no workaround the Y position of the window is incorrect (too high)

with the workaround setting the position a second time you can see the window appears at 0 then jumps down to center screen.

With QT when the window moves it is exactly center of the second screen as it should be.

Type mismatch: wanted Integer, got Function instead

I also get an error on PostgreSQL if I save in two times, I sent a link to a video on ML

Can you try the latest master? It should fix the problem with MySQL and PostgreSQL.

But it should not fix the PostgreSQL problem with "Type mismatch", as I cannot reproduce it at the moment.

I noticed there is a difference in saves.
In MySQL after saving the Browser loses focus (the record is not highlighted)
This doesn't happen in Postgresql which keeps the record highlighted.

It would be better if you can keep the record highlighted

It's not possible, as MySQL does not support the 'RETURNING' SQL keyword, which is needed to automatically move to the newly created record.

Note that MariaDB supports it.

Hi Benoit,

I don't know if it can help:
I tried to update with a change directly from the IDE and instead of writing from date as typed in the 'date' field (08/27/2023 00:00:00 ), it saved in the 'name' field with a different time.
If I try to save just the date without writing the time, I get a segmentation fault.
If I try to rewrite 'Rose' instead of the date in the 'name' field I get: Unable to save the value 'Type mismatch'.

Did your window manager changed since gambas 3.16.2 ?

Anyway, resizing a window during a resize event should not work reliably, because the resizing is actually done inside the window manager process completely asynchronously. So while resizing a window with the mouse, the movements of the mouse override your explicite resize done in the resize event handler.

I don't know if there is a real working solution for that.

The only reliable solution is to tell the window manager that your window is not resizable, and to implement the mouse-based resize process in your code.

It's theoretically possible, with a bit of work (you have to add yo your form some transparent container on its border and handle mouse press events on them to be able to start a resizing process.

I pushed a fix (for Qt only) that may restore the same internal behavior than in previous versions. Maybe it will help you.

It did not from me: the window manager sometimes get weird when the window is resized while I am resizing it with the mouse.

After a routine system update of LinuxFX 11.2 some programs included with the distribution fail with:

The LinuxFX support suggested updating gambas as follow:

rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gambas*
sudo apt-get purge gambas*
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gambas3

The install of gambas3 failed with:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 gambas3 : Depends: gambas3-examples (>= 3.16.3-3) but it is not going to be installed
 gambas3-gb-chart : Depends: gambas3-gb-gui (>= 3.16.3-3) but it is not going to be installed

I'm using gambas3 on RaspberryPI4.
So the window manager is LXDE.
The default gui is GTK3.
I'll check the development version later.

The problem is the program being run "/usr/bin/control" was compiled using a more recent version of gambas than the one you have installed. (or was compiled on another machine with a newer version of gambas)

by removing gambas repositories from /etc/apt/sources using rm you may have removed the ppa for the latest stable version (if you ever had it).

You can try installing the latest stable version of gambas3 with the following commands...

# remove any existing gambas3 packages
sudo apt remove gambas3*

# add the latest gambas3 stable repository to apt sources list.
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:gambas-team/gambas3

# update apt source list
sudo apt-get update

# install all gambas3 components
sudo apt-get install gambas3*

then you should not get the "bytecode to recent" errors

I tried the development version configured with Qt on RaspberryPI4, but it didn't work very well.
I tried gambas3.18.1 on ubuntu22.04 and had no problems.
This difference in behavior seems to depend on the environment, so I'd like to conclude this question for now.

I did a test on a virtual one, the graphics are good.
Too bad it's a Windows-Google and not a GNULinux.
Gambas is the default if you delete it completely and then open a terminal this appears:

Before reading Bruce suggestions I was able to do a complete install of gamba3 using this sequence (suggested at https://gambaswiki.org/wiki/install/ubuntu):

 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gambas-team/gambas3 
 sudo apt-get update
 sudo apt-get install gambas3

After that typing gambas3 in terminal starts the Gambas menu 3.18.3

but shows a never ending list of

 I am also able to start the program "control" from terminal
