The first one is possible (one writes 'bracket' and 'automagically' by the way. Use the English dictionary of your browser).

The second one is possible, but only if you don't use an printable character for that. A printable character must replace a selection. The logical solution is using `ALT+"`, like `ALT+(` and `ALT+[`.
