Since gksu and gksudo in Debian and Ubuntu no longer exist, the 'menu' library looks interesting:

https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/menu

you can install it with the command:

sudo apt install menu

and you can use it for graphics programs like this:

su-to-root -X -c <path to the file to open with root privileges>

e.g:

su-to-root -X -c gedit
