Ok, I can make it happen or not by turning on and off the option 

 'Show Documentation in popups' switch

It happens even in a new project, with the switch on

As soon as I try to enter a function name it happens upon pressing the third letter the ide just exits
completely.

It seems at the moment to only be happening on mint 20, running on mint 19.3 does not seem to happen..
