I prefer keeping write authorization to full developers.

To make the translations, you create a fork of the Gambas project into your gitlab account.

Then you can clone your own Gambas fork, make your translations, do anything you want (branches...). Once done, you commit and push your changes your Gambas project on GitLab, and then you create a merge request from the branch where you did the translations.
