I have just installed Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia Cinnamon 64 bits inside a VirtualBox VM, and Gambas 3.11.4 from the gambas-team ppa, and everything works as expected, keyboard included.

I didn't configure anything special, so I guess there is something weird on your system.
