When you embed a form, it is not associated with a top-level anymore. And the Opacity property is managed by the compositing manager, so it requires a top-level window.

Apparently Qt allows a widget to be drawn with transparency, like you can do with CSS. I don't know if it applies to the children of the control, and I don't know if it is possible to do the same thing with GTK+.
