My test result so far:
Adding just a sk.po doesn't work, I just tested, even though an sk.mo is created when opening the project it will not open in the translator of the IDE.

The IDE can't handle the added file in the translator is what I learned. If the translations itself works is another question as the .po and .mo file are there.
