As Charlie mentioned here [1] and quoted this Manjaro forum post [2]:"GNOME 49 has dropped support for X11 and is now Wayland-only. For that matter, KDE Plasma does still support X11 for now if the additional support packages are installed, but KDE too have announced that they will be dropping X11 support completely for Plasma 6.8."
Just FYI for those who tend to think that Wayland is not only the wrong solution but essentially no solution at all:XLibre [3], the fork of X11 that caused quite a stir less than a year ago, now has over 500 contributors. Last time I looked, which was maybe about a month ago, it had 6 IIRC.
There is a page [4] that shows the statuses for current and potential future support of XLibre by various distributions, desktop environments, display managers, and window managers.
For those who prefer KDE Plasma, which will be dropping support for X11 and say that XLibre should not be installed, there is perhaps SonicDE [5].
