I resolved this issue by editing the file outside the IDE using Kate, saving it and then reopening it

in the IDE, after that there was no issue. It would appear that some hidden character was causing a

miscount by the editor some how???? maybe...

it also seemed to happen as soon as i typed the first character of a sub name as the last line of a file...

Funny that.. I suggest that so often to people for issues, but don't often do it for myself.
