With all due respect, if you haven't used Gambas for a while then you might not have seen that the language is evolving. Perhaps it does not have the enterprise features that you require but it does pretty well on most F/LOSS DBMS systems. The proprietary enterprise DBMS systems you might require work on might not be available in GNU/Linux unless you would like to take a crack at the development of a driver or bridge software that can do what you want it to. We would certainly welcome any F/LOSS software that might help with that task (BTW Which enterprise DBMS systems are you referring to cause I'm not entirely clear on that) If many projects are upstream ruled, and you think Gambas is such a project then perhaps it might be a good idea for whoever is maintaining the packages for Debian to actually communicate with either Benoit or any of the other contributors to resolve whatever issues there are and coordinate on how the Debian packages arriving in Sid, then testing and finally landing on Debian stable, do not cause issues when a dist-upgrade is performed. This is clearly a miscommunication issue that can be resolved very easily. No finger pointing is necessary, or getting mad at people who are trying to incrementally improve and make it easy for any contributions, security fixes and new features to get from upstream as fast as possible to distributions. So if there is a way out of this situation that would be for you to nudge the Debian maintainer for the Gambas3 packages and tell him "Hey, I've talked to the upstream devs and they can help out with sorting out whatever issues you may have with packaging Gambas3 in Debian. They also have their own OBS repository, that you could also check and see if it meets the Debian packaging guidelines and perhaps exchange ideas on how to make the process easier to move source code packages and binary packages from their upstream to Salsa without too many modifications." Anything sort of that will just be very unproductive. If you want to help the project instead of just complaining this is the way to go. And while you're considering this proposed solution, perhaps you should also thank these guys cause they are doing a pretty awesome job, especially for a programming language... you don't use, cause you consider it... not trendy and behind the times (I wonder what your criteria is for such a judgement).
