Have a look at the recipes I made and compare them to recipe on Ubuntu ppa, see that there is little difference. I did add .manpages for gbs, gbw etc instead of the approach you took. Borrowed that from official Debian as it seems neater, will work for Ubuntu as well. And by recipe I mean the folder named debian that is placed in the unpacked source archive to tell the package building software how to make the packages.
