Just out of interest: Has anyone looked into whether and how it is possible to build distribution packages directly on Gitlab?

I'm not normally a big fan of such automations, in some cases the generated packages are more than borderline, but this possibility should not be completely ruled out.

In my opinion, OBS is more accurate and delivers very good results, but it does involve a certain amount of effort.

I haven't tried it yet, but tools like https://github.com/jordansissel/fpm/ might be worth a look in certain situations.

Don't get me wrong, in my opinion OBS is still a good choice, but I've gotten used to not stumbling through life with blinders on ;-)

In my opinion, the important thing is: what do I want to achieve with what quality and what effort - then you can get started.

E.g. things like: Which distributions, architectures (x86, arm, ...), versions, branches, ...

At some point, AI will also want to do this work for us and deliver borderline results (which must be correct because they are AI).

Until that happens, we still have to use our gray matter.
