OK, great you found the cause.

You can define MariaDB / MySQL client variables in the Connection object, using the 'Options' property. I think there are some timeout in them. But I'm not sure which are timeout on the client side, timeout on the server side, and so on... You must read the documentation for that. Maybe you could look at that too, in a future case you are not controlling the server.
